ENGLISH BASICS: NOUNS (Part 1)
Let’s start with the building blocks of English: nouns.
馃憠 What is a noun?
A noun is a word for:

a person (James, teacher)
-
a place (school, warehouse)
-
a thing (job, fish, money)
-
an idea (freedom, happiness)
If you can see it, name it, think it, or feel it — chances are it’s a noun.
1️⃣ Common & Proper Nouns
馃憠 job, fish, warehouse
馃憠 James
-
Common nouns: general names
-
Proper nouns: specific names (always capitalized)
Example:
James has a new job in a furniture warehouse.
2️⃣ Concrete & Abstract Nouns
-
Concrete nouns: you can see or touch them
馃憠 fish, furniture, money -
Abstract nouns: ideas or concepts
馃憠 difference, happiness, freedom
Example:
Every payment makes a difference to the organization.
3️⃣ Singular & Plural Nouns
Some nouns can be one or many.
-
Singular: man, fish
-
Plural: men, fish (yes, English loves chaos 馃槄)
Example:
Give one man a fish or give many men many fish.
馃搶 Some plurals are irregular:
-
man → men
-
child → children
-
mouse → mice
4️⃣ Countable & Uncountable Nouns
-
Countable: can be counted
馃憠 deals, jobs, films -
Uncountable: cannot be counted
馃憠 money, furniture, information
Example:
I found some good deals in the sales and saved a little money.
✔️ Money = uncountable
✔️ Deals = countable
